Danish documentaries to create debate and reflection.

The Danish Embassy in Sofia has on the occasion of the Danish EU presidency selected a handful of Danish documentaries to create a platform for discussion and debate. We are happy to announce that one of the selected films is The Good Life by Eva Mulvad. By screening The Good Life the hope is to invite citizens to take part in the debate of EU policies and institutions. On this occasion, Eva Mulvad will participate in the screening of the film the 24th of April in Sofia, Bulgaria. Gambler Revival 2 - now at Hot Docs!

Watch out Toronto! It is now official that the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival is screening Gambler by Phie Ambo as one of the 189 films for their 2012 festival. This year's festival, running from April 26th to May 6th features documentaries in 11 different programs from over 50 countries. Gambler will be on screen Sun, May 6 7:00 PM as part of the program "Documentary Plays Itself" - a classic doc screening series looking at movies about making movies. Ballroom Dancer has been selected for both the 11th Tribeca Film Festival in New York, that draws an estimated three million people, and for the Hot Docs in Toronto, which is the biggest documentary festival in North America! Gambler Revival

We are excited to announce that Phie Ambos entertaining documentary "Gambler" from 2006 about film director Nicolas Winding Refn and his struggle to clear himself of a personal debt of DKK 5.5 million, has now gained a renewed popularity in Europe. The Documentary just had a screening i Valencia, Spain, at the culture house La Casa Ecendida, and will appear this March in the cinema  Filmoteca de Cantabria in Santander, Spain. The increased popularity is probably linked to Winding Refn's own movie "Drive" that has received much publicity and won the award for best director at Cannes Film Festival 2011.

Danish Film - A Selection: The Good Life

European film lovers will have great opportunity to experience The Good Life during the Danish EU Presidency, 1 January - 30 June 2012. The Good Life is one of the 20 films in the special Blu-ray edition "Danish Film - A Selection" issued by the Danish Film Institute, where Documentaries is one of four categories. The Blu-ray is offered to Danish representations and cultural institutes throughout the EU for them to arrange screenings of Danish films with local partners, and we are happy to announce that Sigrid Dyekjær and Eva Mulvad have been invited to represent a screening of The Good Life in Sofia, Bulgaria.

60 seconds

Phie Ambo will participate in this rather cracy event in Tallinn on the 22nd. Each director contributes with a film of 60 seconds, which will be assembled and shown only one time at which event the film will be burnt in front of the audience.....!

Phie explains her motivation for participation like this:

I was hooked when I read that the film would be shown on 35 mm on the waterfront and burnt while playing. What a beautiful tribute to the elements! I really like that this project was invented out of pure joy and has absolutely no market value. This is very rare and wonderfully irrational.

My contribution shows one of corner stones of biodynamic farming - creating organic fertilizer.
